Here's why these shares are smashing the market today:

GreenX Metals Ltd (ASX: GRX)

The GreenX Metals share price is up 38% to 49.5 cents. This is despite there being no news out of the mineral exploration company today. However, it is worth noting that yesterday the company revealed that the hearing for the international arbitration claims against the Republic of Poland has now completed. GreenX Metals is seeking damages of up to $1.3 billion. These have been claimed in relation to the assessed value of GreenX's lost profits and damages from both the Jan Karski and Debiensko projects.

Stavely Minerals Ltd (ASX: SVY)

The Stavely Minerals share price is up almost 22% to 22.5 cents. Investors have been buying this mineral exploration company's shares since the release of a drilling update on Tuesday. That update revealed that a significant new porphyry target has been established immediately south-east of the Cayley Lode deposit following a recent review of data and drill core. Stavely Minerals is now planning to drill a wide-spaced panel of six diamond drill-holes to extend the Cayley Lode down-plunge. This is with the objective of confirming further high-grade copper-gold mineralisation hosted by the causative porphyry.

Southern Cross Gold Ltd (ASX: SXG)

The Southern Cross Gold share price is up 21% to 85.2 cents on no news. In fact, there hasn't been any news out of this gold explorer for over a week. However, that previous announcement revealed that the company has raised $16 million to fund the exploration of the Sunday Creek project in Victoria. This follows the recent "spectacularly wide intersection of gold-antimony mineralisation grading." Investors appear excited about what may lay ahead for Southern Cross Gold.

But not all stocks are sliding.

Below we look at 3 tiny ASX mining shares bucking the wider selling pressure today to post some outsized gains.

ASX investors reward "spectacular" copper intersections

First up is ASX resource minnow Tennant Minerals Ltd (ASX: TMS), with a market cap of around $29 million.

The ASX mining share entered a trading halt after market close on Thursday and came roaring back today after reporting "spectacular copper intersections" at its Bluebird Prospect in the Northern Territory.

Commenting on the drill results, Tennant Minerals chairman, Matthew Driscoll said:

BBDD0009 is the first hole drilled to test the Bluebird copper-gold zone below previous drilling, and to return a 50-metre intersection of high-grade copper with gold, that approximates true-width, is a spectacular result.

The Tenant Minerals share price, up more than 55% in earlier trade, is currently up 41% for the day.

ASX mining share leaps higher on copper gold intersections

The next ASX mining share heading higher today is Stavely Minerals Ltd (ASX: SVY), with a market cap more than $104 million.

The Stavely share price took off after the explorer reported "outstanding new results" from drilling at its Cayley Lode deposit within its 100%‐owned Stavely Copper‐Gold Project in Victoria.

Those intersections include up to 19.65% copper, 8.29g/t of gold and 202g/t of silver.

Commenting on the drilling results, Stavely Minerals managing director, Chris Cairns said:

The intersection of 92.1m of inter‐fingered sulphide mineralisation may well be the longest down‐hole intersection of mineralisation recorded at the Cayley Lode to date. The significance is that, if follow‐up drilling is able to confirm the continuity of these types of widths of mineralisation along strike and up/down‐dip, there is significant capacity for these intersections to contribute material additions to the upcoming Mineral Resource Estimate.

The Stavely Minerals share price soared more than 16% higher on the news and is currently up 10% for the day.

More strong results from this ASX mining share

Not to be outdone, Estrella Resources Ltd (ASX: ESR), with a market cap of around $40 million, reported spectacular massive sulphide assay results from its 100% owned Carr Boyd Nickel and Copper Project in Western Australia.

Commenting on those assays, Estrella managing director, Chris Daws said:

The Carr Boyd project continues to produce some exceptional results, with numerous intersections of massive nickel sulphide and some very high nickel and copper assays associated with these drill hits…

The high-grade results received from hole CBDD064 beneath the historic Carr Boyd mine not only sees our geological model intact but also bolsters our confidence to unlock further massive nickel sulphides.

The ASX mining share leapt 40% in early trade. At time of writing, the Estrella share price is up 22% for the day.

At the time of writing, the benchmark index is up slightly to 7,396 points.

Four ASX shares that are climbing higher today are listed below. Here's why they are charging higher:

City Chic Collective Ltd (ASX: CCX)

The City Chic share price is up 6% to $5.74. This follows the release of an announcement revealing a new acquisition and its preliminary results for FY 2021. In respect to the former, City Chic has signed an agreement to acquire online plus-sized women's clothing marketplace Navabi for $9.6 million. As for the latter, City Chic expects to report FY 2021 EBITDA in the range of $42 million to $42.5 million. This will be 58% to 60% year on year growth.

Lynas Rare Earths Ltd (ASX: LYC)

The Lynas share price has jumped 10% to $7.08. This follows the release of the rare earths producer's fourth quarter update. Lynas reported a 79.7% increase in fourth quarter neodymium and praseodymium (NdPr) production to 1,393 tonnes. And thanks to the almost doubling of its average realised price, this led to a significant increase in quarterly sales revenue to $185.9 million. This compares to sales revenue of $38 million a year earlier.

Rio Tinto Limited (ASX: RIO)

The Rio Tinto share price is up 2.5% to $130.29. Investors have been buying the mining giant's shares following the release of a positive note out of Macquarie. This morning the broker retained its outperform rating and $162.00 price target on the company's shares. It notes that current spot commodity prices mean Rio Tinto is trading with a free cash flow yield above 20%.

Stavely Minerals Ltd (ASX: SVY)

The Stavely Minerals share price has jumped 17% to 47 cents. The catalyst for this was the mineral exploration company revealing further significant results from the ongoing resource drilling program at the Cayley Lode discovery. This is part of Stavely's 100% owned Stavely Copper-Gold Project in Victoria.

At the time of writing, Stavely Minerals shares are surging by 33.33% after being up by as much as 44.44% in early trade.

Stavely Minerals is a small-cap ASX mineral exploration company. It was formed in 2014 to acquire early to advanced-stage exploration projects with demonstrated high potential for additional discovery.

The company's assets are located in Victoria, Queensland, and Tasmania. Its flagship project is the Stavely Project in western Victoria where the company is targeting a Cadia-style gold-copper porphyry and Lake Cowal-style gold mineralisation.

Why the Stavely Minerals share price is spiking

This morning, Stavely Minerals reported new assay results from the ongoing resource drilling program at the Thursday's Gossan prospect, part of the company's flagship copper-gold Stavely Project.

The drilling program is aimed at uncovering high-grade, near-surface copper-gold-silver mineralisation over a significant strike extent in the Cayley Lode.

Standout results from diamond drill hole SMD087 in the northern part of the Cayley Lode include:

87 metres at 1.74% copper, 0.57 grams per tonne (g/t) gold and 20 g/t silver from 140 metres down-hole, including:

24 metres at 4.19% copper, 1.27 g/t gold and 53 g/t silver from 163 metres; and

9 metres at 4.09% copper, 1.83 g/t gold and 39 g/t silver from 218 metres.

The drilling returned individual interval grades of up to 24.1% copper, 10.05 g/t gold and 249 g/t silver.

Meanwhile, the base of the 24-metre interval hosted strong polymetallic mineralisation. This graded at 2 metres at 9.95% copper, 0.71 g/t gold, 107 g/t silver, 3.87% zinc, 1.18% lead, 0.89% nickel, 0.90% chromium and 0.05% cobalt.

In addition, diamond drill hole SMD085, the south-easternmost drill hole drilled so far in the Cayley Lode, returned:

23 metres at 1.07% copper and 0.11 g/t gold from 339 metres, including:

4 metres at 4.44% copper, 0.26 g/t gold and 7.9 g/t silver from 375 metres.

According to the company, the intercept in SMD085 increases the defined strike extent of the Cayley Lode to 1.5 kilometres, with the deposit remaining open along strike in both directions and down-dip.

Stavely Minerals noted that the resource drill-out at the Cayley Lode is progressing well and is now more than 50% complete. This paves the way for a maiden JORC Mineral Resource estimate targeted for the second half of 2020.

Management commentary

Commenting on these latest results, executive chair Chris Cairns said:

"We continue to be surprised by the incredible consistency and continuity of mineralisation in the Cayley Lode, with the results reported today including significant intervals of strong copper-gold mineralisation in the northern portion of the deposit."

"Due to the large overall interval of strong copper, gold and silver mineralisation in SMD087 and the significant gold grades in the high-grade sub-intervals, we consider this intercept to be on a par with the assays from the discovery drill hole SMD050," he added.

Mr Cairns closed out his comments by saying, "the drilling continues to reveal local variations in the widths of the mineralisation, as we expected from the outset, but generally speaking the deposit is behaving exactly as we had hoped – with the resource drill-out now well advanced and generating some excellent data that will feed into our maiden JORC Mineral Resource estimate later this year."

With a share price of 72 cents at the time of writing, Stavely Minerals' current market capitalisation is sitting at around $154 million.
