The price of lithium carbonate remains top-heavy in FY23 while various commodity baskets have either cooled off or pared their 2022 gains completely.

With the demand for electric vehicles (EVs) continuing to stretch higher, so too is the demand for battery metals such as lithium and its derivatives.

With that, these two ASX lithium shares have booked double-digit gains today following new discoveries.

Ragusa Minerals Ltd (ASX: RAS)

Ragusa advised today it has completed the initial desktop review of previous works conducted at its NT Lithium Project and compiled all results received to date.

A portion of these historical works identified numerous high-grade lithium samples. As such, the results have identified "numerous priority drill targets", Ragusa says.

Chairman Jerko Zuvela said the discovery will help Ragusa "rapidly accelerate the development" of the project.

"We have a significant opportunity to utilise our exploration and development experience to … realise the massive upside value potential in a Tier 1 jurisdiction close to major infrastructure at a time of record lithium prices," he added.

This ASX lithium share is up 50% today to 15 cents apiece.

Lithium Plus Minerals Ltd (ASX: LPM)

Lithium Plus Minerals also provided test results from its maiden Phase 1 diamond drilling program at the Lei Prospect, located at the Bynoe Project.

The company says it intersected a thick downhole interval of 43 metres of pegmatite from 191.9 metres. This extends previously discovered pegmatites at the location.

Core samples have been sent to the company's logging facility in Darwin and will undergo more detailed logging and sampling.

The first drill hole is the first of a potential 9-hole 2-phase diamond drilling program at Lei, targeting 1,800 metres in depth.

Lithium Plus says the second Phase 1 diamond hole is currently underway.

Speaking on the results, the executive chairman, Dr Bin Guo, said the company is "pleased with the samples".

"[O]ur maiden diamond hole at the Lei Prospect, which have visibly validated the historical spodumene-bearing pegmatite system at Depth, [now] provide us confidence that we may have a significant lithium discovery at Bynoe," he added.

Lithium Plus shares are up 14% today. They have risen by 176% since listing in April of this year. The ASX lithium share now trades at 69 cents apiece.

In afternoon trade, the S&P/ASX 200 Index (ASX: XJO) is on course to record another decline. At the time of writing, the benchmark index is down 0.4% to 6,660.3 points.

Four ASX shares that are not letting that hold them back are listed below. Here's why they are pushing higher:

Computershare Limited (ASX: CPU)

The Computershare share price is up 3% to $24.27. This appears to have been driven by a broker note out of Ord Minnett. Its analysts have upgraded the administration services company's shares to an accumulate rating with a $26.00 price target. The broker believes that rising interest rates will be a positive for Computershare.

Lithium Plus Minerals Ltd (ASX: LPM)

The Lithium Plus share price is up 36% to 40 cents. This morning the lithium explorer advised that its mining management plan for the flagship Bynoe Lithium Project has been approved. As a result, the company has appointed Darwin-based drilling contractor, GeoDrilling, to undertake an initial program of approximately 10,000 metres of Reverse Circulation drilling.

Lynas Rare Earths Ltd (ASX: LYC)

The Lynas share price is up 4.5% to $8.91. The catalyst for this appears to have been a broker note out of Macquarie. This morning it reiterated its outperform rating and $12.80 price target on this rare earths producer's shares. This was in response to the company's update on Tuesday, which revealed that it has been awarded a US$120 million contract by the US government to build a heavy rare earths facility.

ResApp Health Ltd (ASX: RAP)

The ResApp share price is up a further 6% to 17.5 cents. This digital health company's shares have been racing higher this week after pharmaceutical giant Pfizer improved its takeover offer. Pfizer agreed to increase its offer from 11.5 cents per share in cash to either 14.6 cents or 20.7 cents per share. The ultimate price will depend on the results of a clinical validation study, which investors appear to believe will be successful.

At one stage today, the lithium explorer's shares were up as much as 56% to 46 cents.

The Lithium Plus Minerals share price has since eased back a touch but remains up 39% to 41 cents.

Why is the Lithium Plus Minerals share price rocketing higher?

Investors have been bidding this lithium share higher today following the release of a positive announcement.

According to the release, the company's Mining Management Plan (MMP) for its flagship Bynoe Lithium Project has been approved by the Northern Territory Department of Industry, Tourism and Trade.

The authorised activities cover the key Bynoe Lithium Project tenements of EL31133 and EL31091. This project is in very close proximity to the Finniss Lithium Project of Core Lithium Ltd (ASX: CXO).

What's next?

The recently listed lithium explorer also revealed that Darwin-based drilling contractor, GeoDrilling, has been secured to undertake an initial program of approximately 10,000 metres of Reverse Circulation (RC) drilling.

This program has been designed to target the Lei and Cai Prospects and is expected to take approximately four months to complete. GeoDrilling is scheduled to mobilise in the coming weeks with drilling activities expected to commence by early July.

Executive chairman, Dr Bin Guo, commented:

We are delighted to have secured a locally-based drilling contractor, with extensive experience in the Bynoe pegmatite field, for the 2022 field season. With all permitting activities now completed, we look forward to the rapid mobilisation of the RC rig to Bynoe and commencement of drilling in the next few weeks. Our initial focus is the Lei and Cai Prospects, where we believe there is strong potential to delineate a maiden high-grade lithium resource at Bynoe.

The broader market traded in the green on Friday and these ASX mining shares made the most of it.

As of Friday's close, the All Ordinaries Index (ASX: XAO) and the S&P/ASX 200 Index (ASX: XJO) were both up 1.1%. Meanwhile, the S&P/ASX 200 Resources Index (ASX: XJR) underperformed, recording a gain of just 0.44%.

But these ASX miners didn't let their sector's poor performance slip them up. They each surged more than 10% in Friday's trade. Let's take a look at what boosted them today.

These ASX mining shares surged more than 10% today

Firefinch Ltd (ASX: FFX)

The Firefinch share price lifted to an intraday high of $1.14 today, representing a 17.5% gain.

It came as the ASX mining company released details on its plan to demerge its lithium assets.

The prospectus for the new company – to be named Leo Lithium – dropped this morning.

Firefinch shareholders will be granted one Leo Lithium share for every 1.4 Firefinch shares held. They can also choose to participate in a pro-rata offer.

The demerger scheme will face a shareholder vote next month.

Lithium Plus Minerals Ltd (ASX: LPM)

ASX mining newbie Lithium Plus rocketed 13% to an intraday high of $1.04.

The company listed on the ASX on Tuesday.
Lithium Energy Ltd (ASX: LEL)

The third ASX mining share to take off on Friday is Lithium Energy. Its share price lifted 23.7% to $1.51 at its highest point – a new all-time high.

There's been no news from the company today. However, it announced yesterday that it's been given the governmental green light to start work at its Solaroz Lithium Brine Project.

The Lithium Plus Minerals Ltd (ASX: LPM) share price is trailblazing its debut on the ASX today. This comes after the lithium explorer provided an update in regards to its capital raise.

At the time of writing, Lithium Plus shares are up an astounding 188% to 72 cents.

Lithium Plus announces successful listing on ASX

In today's statement, Lithium Plus advised it has successfully raised $10 million which reached the maximum targeted subscription amount in new equity funds.

Notably, Suzhou CATH Energy Technologies Co Ltd (CATH) conducted a $2.2 million cornerstone investment.

CATH is a subsidiary of CATL, the world's largest electric vehicle battery manufacturer.

In total, 97 million Lithium Plus shares were listed at 25 cents apiece to eligible investors.

The register composition comprises 43% of board and management, 9% from CATH, and 48% making up "other" investors.

The raised funds allow the company to pursue exploration activities at its wholly-owned Bynoe Lithium Project in the Northern Territory.

The Bynoe Project is located adjacent to Core Lithium Ltd's (ASX: CXO) Finniss Lithium Project.

Lithium Plus stated that the Bynoe Project tenements are home to a similar geological setting to Finniss. Several of the key Bynoe prospects are located directly along strike from Core's BP33 deposit.

Recent drilling at BP33 returned high-grade spodumene rich intersections including 57.35 metres at 1.83% Li2O and 51 metres at 1.63% Li2O.

Lithium Plus executive chairman, Dr Bin Guo commented:

We are delighted to have successfully reached this significant point in the Lithium Plus journey. The IPO process has provided a strong validation of the outright quality of the Bynoe Project, as recognised by all participating investors including our cornerstone IPO subscriber, CATH.

We now look forward to delivering upon the substantial potential of Bynoe and our other key tenements. That process commences in coming weeks with the planned start of drilling at the Lei and Cai Prospects. We are now simply excited to get started on aggressively exploring this world-class package of lithium ground.

More on the Lithium Plus

With operations based in the Northern Territory, Lithium Plus is focused on five projects within two highly prospective areas.
