About AGL Energy Ltd

AGL Energy Limited (ASX: AGL) is one of Australia's oldest energy providers. Since its beginnings as Australia’s first gas company in 1837 and lighting the first gas street lamp in Sydney in 1841, AGL has been at the forefront of energy supply in Australia.

The power company participates in the gas and electricity wholesale and retail markets. Its diverse portfolio spans traditional thermal power generation and renewable sources, including hydro, wind, solar and landfill gas.

The AGL share price has struggled in recent times, however, and has been on a downward trend since COVID-19 impacted the market in March 2020. In 2022, AGL scrapped demerger plans to create two energy businesses with separate listings on the ASX after facing strong opposition from investors and industry experts.
